5 Big-Hearted Companies That Give Back To Cats

| Published on August 1, 2016

We support pet companies every day, whether it’s when we’re buying cat food, choosing a new toy, or investing in pet insurance. What you may not realize is that many of the companies you love do a lot to give back to the animal community. Here are five companies that go above and beyond to make sure the work they do and the products they sell help animals get fed, adopted, and cared for in the way they deserve.

#1 – iHeartCats

Our name isn’t just for show; everyone working here really does heart cats! Many of us devote significant portions of our lives caring for cats, either professionally or through volunteer opportunities, but iHeartCats makes a difference as a company too! We’ve partnered up with Rescue Bank to provide cat food to smaller, less visible non-profits across the country who have limited access to resources. Each product you purchase through the iHeartCats Store will help fund this crucial food delivery. For instance, purchasing just one t-shirt will feed 14 cats! In May we broke a record and fed 127,178 shelter cats! I think it’s safe to say that we have the best readers ever!

#2 – Petco

Petco helps cats through their Petco Foundation. According to the foundation’s website “At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. And together, with animal lovers like you, we’re working to create a better world for them.” How do they do it? Well, the Petco Foundation helps to find homes for over 400,000 animals every year through their Think Adoption First program, they invest in well-respected animal welfare organizations, and they help fund programs that help pets and the people who love them (such as research to cure pet cancer and programs that train therapy animals).

#3 – PetSmart

PetSmart started PetSmart Charities with the intention of ending pet homelessness, and they’re certainly taking a pretty big bite out of the problem! In 2015 alone, PetSmart Charities gave $29,000,000 (that’s 29 MILLION! Wow!) to North American animal welfare groups. In 2015, they also subsidized 214,000 spay and neuter surgeries!

#4 – Halo

According to their website, “The Halo Pet Foundation’s mission is to enhance the well-being of pets and the people who love them. Inspired by our love for animals, we strive to help pets and their families live longer, happier, healthier lives together. Specifically, we seek to educate people on responsible pet ownership, eliminating animal abuse and reducing the overpopulation of uncared for pets.” To this end, Halo, Purely For Pets donates a portion of sales to the foundation to feed shelter pets.

#5 – Embrace Pet Insurance

“Not only are we ‘Embracers’ – we’re pet parents too and we care very much about the pet community around us.”, states the Embrace Pet Insurance website. To show how much they care about the animals in their community and beyond, Embrace donates to a number of animal shelters and welfare organizations. Their employees also take the time to volunteer at shelters in their community.
